When “American Idol” stars Kat & Alex announced their musical and romantic separation, their fans were disappointed. The gifted couple chose to break up romantically and separate ways musically despite their tremendous on- and off-stage connection.

Their passionate fan following, who had loved their musical talents and love story, was shocked by the news. Many of their followers couldn’t help but feel upset by the loss of their enthralling cooperation, both in music and romance, even though they reassured their fans that they would continue following their own hobbies.

The married country singing duo Kat & Alex are calling it quits. After four years together, the musicians Kat Luna and Alex Garrido, who now performs under the name Georgia, revealed on Instagram that they are splitting up, both in their professional and personal life.

Our hearts are sad to have to make this announcement as we write this, the couple said in a joint statement. We have mutually chosen to separate ways both musically and romantically after four years of love and music. We are tremendously thankful for the time God has allowed us to spend with you all as well as with one other.

The former contestants of American Idol went on to write that they are still learning “how to navigate” through life’s ups and downs, but that they will always be there for one another.

They wrote: “Throughout this process, we simply ask for your support and understanding as we have nothing but love for one other in our hearts. “Even though we won’t be doing music as Kat & Alex, Kat Luna and Alex Georgia will still be pursuing their aspirations on their own. Your continuing assistance would mean the world to us as we travel on our separate paths.

“We love y’all so much,” the couple wrote as the caption for their photo.

At Dickson, Tennessee’s Cactus Creek Barn, Luna, 23, and Georgia, 30, exchanged vows in January 2021 after becoming engaged in October 2020.

When he and Luna became engaged, Georgia told PEOPLE, “It’s funny when you hear that saying, ‘When you know you know,'” “Until I met Kat, I never believed I’d truly go through that… I started like her as soon as we started singing together.

The two gained notoriety on American Idol after submitting a joint audition in 2020. Despite making it beyond the first round, Georgia was quickly eliminated, and Luna kept competing alone until she was eliminated before making it to the live performance.

When Kat & Alex performed on the Grand Ole Opry for the first time in October 2021, Luna told PEOPLE that it was “a blessing” to be able to do so as a pair.
